French President Emmanuel Macron and several African leaders are initiating a $1 billion project to accelerate vaccine distribution in Africa after the COVID-19 outbreak highlighted disparities in access. The African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator will incentivize vaccine manufacturers and aims to enhance Africa's manufacturing capacity, improve global vaccine markets, and boost preparedness for future pandemics and diseases like HIV, malaria, and TB. The launch also supports Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in distributing vaccines to developing countries worldwide.
