On June 16, 2024, in New Taipei City, a woman riding a scooter with her daughter was stopped in an alley by two men claiming their designer bag was hit and demanding compensation. However, the daughter suspected something was amiss and realized the men were habitual offenders who had recently committed similar crimes nearby. She quickly took photos for evidence and reported the incident to the police. The fraudsters, who faked accidents by deliberately standing in narrow alleys to extort money, were apprehended by the authorities. The local residents hope they will not reappear to deceive others through the same scheme.
