On June 13, 2024, a fake police officer scam involving convincing victims via video recording was foiled by a collaborative effort between the police and a bank. The scammers pretended to be officers investigating a serious crime and falsely claimed that the victim's bank account was involved, with one even dressing up as a 'number eight extension' officer to conduct an online recording. The victim almost withdrew all her money out of fear, until the real officers arrived and debunked the scam. Authorities warn the public to be cautious of phrases like owing health insurance or telecom fees, as genuine officials would never ask for payments over the phone or conduct video recordings remotely.
