Exclusive report as of July 1, 2024, 11:36 PM. In an effort to reduce tooth decay rates and implement the public health policies of the Taipei City Health Bureau, the Department of Dentistry at Taipei City Hospital will be offering free fluoride coating activities for 2nd to 6th-grade students during the summer vacation. Director Li Ya-ling emphasized that tooth decay is the most common oral disease among children, with a dental caries rate of up to 95% for children with disabilities or developmental delays due to lack of tooth brushing skills. During school breaks, when children consume more sweets, inadequate oral care may lead to an increased risk of tooth decay. Fluoride coating can enhance tooth resistance to acid, inhibit bacterial growth and metabolism, and prevent tooth decay, acting like a bulletproof vest for teeth to reduce the chances of cavities. To maximize the effectiveness of fluoride coating, Li Ya-ling recommends that students brush their teeth clean before the procedure, and if there are cavities, these should be treated before coating for the best preventive effect. The free fluoride coating activity will take place from July 22 to August 2, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM-11:30 AM and 1:30 PM-4:00 PM at different hospital branches. This service is limited to Taipei City residents, and parents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to safeguard their children's oral health.
