French Open controversy as player avoids disqualification for hitting fan with ball

Reported 6 months ago

During the French Open, home favourite tennis player Terence Atmane avoided disqualification after hitting a spectator with a ball in frustration. This incident sparked criticism for the lack of consistency among officials, especially compared to previous disqualifications in other tournaments. Despite British player Liam Broady calling the supervising and umpiring during the match atrocious, Atmane received only a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct while facing Austria’s Sebastian Ofner on Court 12 in a late-night match, eventually losing in five sets.
