Conflicts over priority seating on public transportation have led to the reconsideration of the existence of charity seats, now dubbed fighting seats. The Ministry of Health and Welfare had previously suggested amending the law but no action was taken. The minister, Shih Chung-liang, stated that the ministry will propose a discussion in this term again, looking to alter the name and expand the scope of beneficiaries. The Ministry of Transportation will support this initiative. Discussions are ongoing to potentially rename the charity seats and adopt a similar approach to Japan's 'priority seats' to better meet the needs of the public. The controversy has brought attention to the importance of these seats in reflecting the civic quality of Taiwanese people.
