On June 16, 2024, at 8:50 PM, reporter Shih Chun-mei / Taipei reported on SET News website that Dr. Hsiao Chieh-chien stated that the calories of fruits depend on the type, and the sweetness doesn't differ much. Contrary to common belief, the sweetness of fruits does not necessarily correlate with higher calories. Dr. Hsiao explained that the key to the calories in fruits lies in the total amount of carbohydrates, rather than the sweetness from fructose and glucose. Therefore, choosing sweeter fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and watermelons doesn't significantly impact calorie intake. He emphasized that the calorie difference between sweeter and less sweet fruits is minimal, illustrating with examples such as guava. For those aiming to eat healthily, selecting fruits with lower glycemic indexes like guava, which is similar to strawberries, can be a good choice.
