FTC Demands PC Brands to Improve by Removing Warranty Stickers Restricting Consumers' Right to Self-Repair

Reported about 1 year ago

In response to the current Right to Repair movement in the US, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently required PC brands including ASRock, Zotac, Gigabyte to improve their practice of using 'void if removed' warranty stickers to restrict consumers from self-repairing devices. This move aims to protect consumers' rights to repair and upgrade their own products. The FTC deems such warranty sticker restrictions as a violation of consumers' self-repair rights, demanding the brands to adjust the practice. Failure to comply within 30 days may lead to further penalties. Additionally, the FTC has also demanded adjustments to warranty practices in other devices like air purifiers and treadmills. ASRock, Zotac, and Gigabyte, among others, have yet to respond to this directive.
