Due to escalating geopolitical tensions and economic concerns, the 'Taiwan Town' in Pingtan, Fujian Province, China, specially developed for Taiwanese businessmen, has become deserted with only a few remaining operational shops. Despite offering tax incentives, subsidies, and assistance in obtaining household registration to Taiwanese investors, the area has seen a significant decrease in investment due to factors such as Taiwan independence sentiments, the COVID-19 pandemic, and doubts about mainland China investments. Trade between Fujian and Taiwan has also declined, reflecting broader challenges faced by Taiwanese businesses in China.
