After two firefighters died in the Qing Kung Crossing fire in Hsinchu, their family members, supported by the political party Times Power, accused the city government and fire department of shifting blame to the grassroots level and failing to thoroughly review fire safety measures. Hsinchu Mayor responded by stating that internal review and punishment were conducted without covering up responsibility. Calls were made for the government to release the investigation report to reveal the truth to the families and society. The incident sparked discussions on the shortage of firefighters and the need for improvement in fire safety measures to prevent accidents from recurring.
