At CrimeCon 2024 in Nashville, Gabby Petito's mother, Nichole Schmidt, forgave her daughter's killer, Brian Laundrie, stating she needed to release herself from anger and bitterness. However, she called out Laundrie's mother, Roberta, as 'evil' and unworthy of forgiveness, saying she 'deserves to be forgotten' due to her lack of empathy and remorse. The Petito family settled a lawsuit with the Laundries earlier this year, alleging their involvement in concealing the murder and aiding Laundrie's evasion of justice.
