A man from Shanghai, China, who works as an online game streamer, was scammed by his online 'girlfriend' for 7 years without ever meeting in person. The man transferred a total of nearly 2.85 million NTD to the woman after she fabricated various reasons like illness and family emergencies. He realized he had been deceived when he discovered that the woman had been using photos of a different person on her social media. The woman, who confessed to planning the scam before meeting him, has been detained for fraud, and part of the money has been recovered by the authorities. Police investigations are ongoing.
