Germany does not anticipate UniCredit pursuing a full bid for Commerzbank currently, according to Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Although UniCredit holds a 28% stake in Commerzbank and has European Central Bank approval to increase it to 29.9%, it views this stake merely as a financial investment. Merz emphasized that the share percentage is below the level needed to trigger a takeover offer and that he has not discussed the situation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
