Giant 2-Meter Sunfish Washes Up on US Beach, Experts Surprised by Unusual Species Appearance

Reported 11 months ago

A giant sunfish measuring approximately 7.3 feet (about 2.2 meters) washed ashore on Gearhart Beach in Oregon, USA, attracting many spectators. Experts were surprised as sunfish are typically found in temperate waters of the Southern Hemisphere, sparking discussions. The fish, identified as a 'hoodwinker sunfish' by researcher Mariann Nyegaard, is believed to be the largest sunfish specimen ever found. The sunfish remains on the beach, with the Seaside Aquarium noting it may stay for days or even weeks due to its tough skin making it hard for scavengers to penetrate.
