Girl Contracts Canine Bartonella Infection from Animals

Reported 9 months ago

A girl in Changhua County, Taiwan, accompanied by her mother due to a fever, was found to have a urinary tract infection caused by Bartonella henselae, which they both contracted from recent contact with dogs. Both received antibiotics for 10 days before recovering. It was highlighted that individuals with compromised immune systems are at higher risk of Bartonella infection, which can lead to serious complications if left untreated. The case serves as a reminder of the zoonotic potential of pathogens from pets and the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices and seeking medical attention for unexplained infections.
