Girl with Fever and UTI Infected with Zoonotic Bacterium Shared with Mother

A girl surnamed Peng from Changhua County recently had a fever, and both she and her mother were found to be infected with a zoonotic bacterium after visiting the hospital together. The doctor discovered that both had recent contact with dogs, emphasizing the importance of hygiene practices when interacting with pets. The girl and her mother both received antibiotic treatment for 10 days before recovering. The bacterium, Pasteurella, can cause urinary tract infections, fever, frequent urination, and if left untreated, can lead to severe complications like sepsis and death. It is a zoonotic pathogen commonly found in the oral cavity, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract of pets and can be transmitted to humans through bites, scratches, or close contact.
