A global aluminium producer is targeting a premium of $260 per metric ton from Japanese buyers for primary metal shipments in the second quarter, marking a 14% increase from the current quarter. This rise is attributed to concerns over potential supply shortages due to new U.S. tariffs on Canadian aluminium. The proposed premium comes after Japanese buyers paid $228 per ton in the previous quarter, the highest in nearly a decade. However, negotiations may be prolonged due to differing expectations between buyers and suppliers.
