RE100, a global renewable energy initiative involving companies like Apple, Meta Platforms, and Nike, is urging Japan to increase its clean electricity capacity threefold as the country reviews its national energy strategy. The initiative recommends Japan to boost its renewable power capacity to 363 gigawatts by 2035, up from 121 gigawatts in 2022, and proposes various measures including transparent electricity prices, improved corporate power purchase agreements, accelerated grid upgrades, and increased public and private investment. RE100 is seeking discussions with Japanese government officials to push for renewable energy adoption, as Japan faces challenges due to high costs and insufficient supply of renewables.
