The 2024 Global Peace Index released by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace revealed that amidst ongoing conflicts like Israel vs. Hamas, and Russia vs. Ukraine, 97 countries experienced deteriorating peace conditions in 2023, leading to almost an equal number of countries being involved in external conflicts. Iceland is ranked as the most peaceful country while Yemen sits at the bottom. Taiwan is placed 43rd out of 163 countries globally and ranks 7th in the Asia-Pacific region. The report highlighted significant peace disparities between countries and identified ongoing conflicts as major drivers of global peace deterioration, resulting in numerous casualties and refugee crises.
