Global Smartphone Growth Slows in Q2

Reported 7 months ago

According to IDC's latest report on the global smartphone supply chain, the smartphone manufacturing scale in Q1 of 2024 showed a seasonally reduced situation due to weak downstream market demand and rising prices of key components. IDC predicts that component price hikes will not ease until Q3, leading to a relatively sluggish growth trend in the global smartphone industry in Q2. Despite a 8.6% decline compared to Q4 of 2023, the industry saw a 10% growth from the same period last year. The report suggests that as market demand remains weak, smartphone brands are cutting component orders to combat further price increases, with most component price hikes expected to stabilize in Q3. While the global 5G smartphone shipment share may exceed original expectations in 2024, IDC anticipates a slight drop in outsourced design and production.
