On June 8, 2024, the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction and the Environmental Protection Administration released the '2024 National Climate Change Science Report,' warning that if no action is taken to address global warming, Taiwan could experience summers lasting up to 7 months by the end of the century, with temperatures over 36 degrees increasing by 75 days. This would lead to a more than 10% decrease in staple crops like rice and corn by the mid-century and could impact some aquaculture and livestock industries. The report highlights the urgency of reducing carbon emissions and the need for climate resilience strategies to combat the severe effects of global warming on food production and livelihoods.
