GlobalWafers announced that its Italian subsidiary, MEMC S.p.A., is granted a subsidy of up to €103 million (about NT$35.82 billion) under the new EU chip act for developing the most advanced 12-inch semiconductor wafer plant in Europe. This subsidy aims to address the high reliance on imported wafers in the European semiconductor supply chain, with MEMC S.p.A.'s new plant expected to fill this critical gap. The plant will support the development of downstream products in four high-tech areas under the EU's microelectronics and communication technology priority project, with a focus on sensors, logic components, power electronics, and communication components.
