Adam Wingard will not be returning to direct the Godzilla x Kong sequel due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming project "Onslaught" for A24. Despite teasing ideas for a sequel during the press tour for "The New Empire," Wingard's commitment to "Onslaught" has caused him to step away from the Monsterverse franchise. Legendary has already hired Dave Callaham to write the follow-up, following the success of "The New Empire," which grossed over $1 billion.
