Google is currently in a trial aimed at potentially breaking up its search empire, as the Justice Department claims the company has illegally monopolized online search markets. The trial, overseen by Judge Amit Mehta, has the DOJ suggesting that Google should be forced to divest its Chrome browser and possibly its Android operating system to encourage competition. Google contends that the proposals would harm consumers and threaten privacy and national security. The outcome could lead to appeals regardless of the decision.
