Google Signs Licensing Deal with Character.AI and Hires Founders

This deal also brings back Character.AI co-founders Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas to Google, where they previously worked. Concurrently, Character.AI's general counsel Dominic Perella will step in as interim CEO. This partnership follows similar moves by Microsoft and Amazon, sparking regulatory scrutiny over big tech's acquisition of AI startups.
