The Ministry of Finance's National Treasury Administration in Taiwan announced a decrease in government debt in July 2024, with an average debt per person dropping from 274,000 in May to 258,000 in June. This reduction was driven by active debt repayment efforts by the Ministry of Finance. The total outstanding government debt stood at 6.38 trillion NTD, with long-term debt at 5.878 trillion NTD and short-term debt at 160 billion NTD. The government allocated a record-high amount of 115 billion NTD for debt repayment in the fiscal year, marking a 23-year high since the amendment of the Public Debt Act in 2002.
