Government to Launch Multiple Legal Actions in Response to Parliament Empowerment Bill! Executive Yuan to Apply for Interpretation This Week while DPP Caucus Seeks for It on 26th

Reported 8 months ago

DPP caucus has announced plans to apply for constitutional interpretation and injunction on the 26th, with representatives attending briefings, preparing procedures and engaging in verbal debates. Following the legislature's rejection of the Executive Yuan's parliamentary reform reconsideration proposal, President Lai Ching-te has stated his intent to safeguard constitutional order and protect people’s rights by seeking interpretation and injunction through the Constitutional Court. The Executive Yuan and DPP caucus are both preparing the necessary documents for the interpretation request, with the Executive Yuan aiming to apply as early as this week. Various other entities including the Executive Yuan, DPP caucus, and Control Yuan are also gearing up to apply for constitutional interpretation. The legislative process has raised concerns in society and risks towards the principle of power separation and checks and balances outlined in the Constitution, prompting the interpretation request for injunction. The DPP caucus meeting expressed respect and understanding for President Lai's decision, with a focus on procedural and substantive violations of the Constitution. The DPP caucus secretary-general emphasized addressing procedural violations. The DPP caucus refuted allegations from the KMT party that the interpretation request was part of an effort to 'surround the Legislature,' pointing out that the KMT's intentions can be questionable. Further, the DPP caucus criticized KMT legislators' behavior and questioned reports of KMT requesting Taiwan Semiconductor to provide confidential information, urging them to act responsibly.
