A grandmother surnamed Wang from mainland China who broke her hand while running away after being caught stealing vegetables from a farm at night in October 2022, filed a lawsuit against the farmer surnamed Huang for over 80,000 yuan (about 340,000 NTD). Wang claimed that she suffered a hip and arm fracture from the fall caused by Huang chasing her with a stick, resulting in severe disability, although the court rejected her claim citing lack of evidence and her own theft as a violation of Huang's property rights. Subsequent appeals were also denied by the court.
