Greek Heat Wave Closes Acropolis for Second Day Due to High Temperatures

Reported 7 months ago

Greek authorities closed the Acropolis in Athens for a second consecutive day due to soaring temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, shutting down the popular historical site from midday to 5 p.m. local time to safeguard visitors from the heatwave. Other archaeological sites in Athens were also closed during the same hours, with visitors able to use their tickets later in the day until the sites closed at 8 p.m. Officials are on high alert for wildfires as the dry conditions and high temperatures pose an increased risk. The fire service has warned of a very high wildfire threat, while the government is providing air-conditioned spaces and fans to students taking exams amidst the heatwave.
