Greek-Owned Ship Attacked in Red Sea, Takes on Water

Reported 4 months ago

A Greek-owned bulk carrier, the Laax, was attacked by three ballistic missiles launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen while sailing through the Red Sea. The vessel, managed by Grehel Shipmanagement Co. in Piraeus, Greece, sustained damage to its cargo hold and started taking on water, causing it to list. Despite the attack, the ship continued on its voyage, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by ships navigating the critical waterway. The incident occurred southwest of Hodeida, Yemen, and is part of a series of assaults by Yemen's Houthis. This attack could discourage trade through the southern Red Sea as many ships opt to sail around Africa instead of using the Suez Canal.
