Green MEPs Occupy Chairs, Kao Chin Su-mei Urges 'Mature Democrat' Despite Illness, Meeting Suspended Again After Assembly

Reported about 1 year ago

During the review of the amendment draft of the 'Recall and Dismissal of Public Officials Election Law' by the Interior Committee on July 4, tensions rose as the DPP legislative party occupied the chairman's podium early in the morning, followed by the KMT legislative party staging a counteraction. Independent committee convener Kao Chin Su-mei, feeling unwell, urged for mature democratic behavior and temporarily left the meeting, which was repeatedly disrupted by DPP MPs shouting slogans. The meeting was eventually suspended as of 10 a.m. The agenda included 14 items, with 6 related to indigenous election rights. While the DPP MPs were willing to discuss the recall thresholds, Kao emphasized the need for consensus to end political bickering. The KMT criticized the DPP for obstructing democracy, and the meeting ended with no resolution.
