Taiwanese Democratic Progressive Party councilor Lin Yiting's father, Lin Shijie, was shot at close range by a gunman while preparing for a mountain climb on the morning of July 8, 2024. The gunman, who was captured in surveillance footage, wore a duckbill cap, mask, and gloves, and carried out the shooting with premeditation, targeting Lin Shijie's face, neck, and chest. Despite being rushed to Chi Mei Hospital for treatment, Lin Shijie succumbed to his injuries. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrator and any possible accomplices, with details on the motive still pending clarification.
