As Halloween 2025 approaches, candy prices have risen by over 8%, largely due to skyrocketing cocoa prices, which have more than doubled since early 2024 caused by extreme weather and supply constraints. Major cocoa-producing countries like Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire have faced severe weather fluctuations that have harmed crop yields, leading to a historic supply deficit. This situation has pushed manufacturers to pass costs onto consumers, resulting in reduced chocolate availability for Halloween treats and a shift towards sugar candies instead.
