Most infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed with residential homes, hospitals, and schools turned into ruins, as per a report on CNN by Reuters. In an interview with a senior Hamas official, he avoided revealing how many Israeli hostages are still alive and expressed no regret for last year's attack that resulted in over 37,000 Palestinian deaths. The official justified the action as resistance against Israeli occupation, stating that resistance results in death, but so does non-resistance, questioning what other choice they have. Hamas initiated the attack in October last year by infiltrating Israel and killing over 1,200, mostly civilians, and kidnapping around 250 people. The Israeli counterattack led to a death toll exceeding 37,000 Palestinians in 8 months, mostly women and children, and has caused a humanitarian crisis.
