During an interview, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung stated that specified medications, not requiring a doctor's prescription and purchasable at pharmacies, will have 14 more items excluded from National Health Insurance (NHI) coverage starting August. This move aims to gradually detach specified medication from NHI to alleviate financial burden while focusing on maintaining drug quality. Payments for specified medications decreased from 906 items in 2018 to 815 items in February, with an anticipated reduction to 801 items after the August exclusion. The Health Minister stressed that healthcare quality remains a priority and continuous efforts are being made towards upholding drug quality.
