A 5-month-old baby in Shaanxi, China had a catheter needle break in their blood vessel during a surgical procedure due to nurse negligence, which floated in their bloodstream for 5 years before being recently removed. Despite a failed attempt to remove the needle earlier, leaving a 10cm scar on the child's head, the needle was finally located and removed in a 3-hour surgery at Beijing Children's Hospital. The hospital responsible initially refused further treatment until media coverage, availing loans to the family for treatment costs, amounting to nearly 89,000 NTD. This case sparked online outrage with many expressing concern for the child and criticism towards the hospital, calling for legal action against the nurses involved.
