As of July 4, 2024, a 'dinosaur-level' heat wave has hit Taiwan, causing a 30% drop in customer visits to hot pot restaurants. In response, chains like 'This One Hot Pot,' 'Mala Hot Pot,' and 'Dagoba Hot Pot' have launched aggressive promotions to combat the heat and attract customers. Despite the traditional preference for hot pot year-round, summer still sees a 10%-15% decrease in customer visits to hot pot restaurants. Eateries are ramping up promotions due to the early arrival of the extreme heatwave this year, trying to offset the increase in electricity costs from heavy air conditioning use in the hot weather. Various discounts and deals, such as dressing in bikinis for a discount and discounts based on temperature, are being offered to lure customers and expand their base.
