Heatwave in Pakistan Claims 500 Lives in 6 Days, Man Collapses and Dies After Drinking Water

Reported 9 months ago

Pakistan's southern region is experiencing a severe heatwave with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees and a heat index of 49 degrees Celsius, leading to over 500 deaths in just 6 days, mostly affecting outdoor workers. Hospitals are overwhelmed with heatstroke patients, with one hospital receiving 568 bodies in 6 days. Measures like setting up heatwave relief centers and advising people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities are in place to combat the heatwave. One man, after finishing a night shift in intense heat, collapsed and died after drinking water, possibly due to a heart attack. The ongoing power outages in Karachi have also contributed to heat-related deaths, as some residents were unable to use fans or air conditioning during the extreme temperatures.
