As the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday begins, multiple accidents causing congestion have been reported on the highways. The National Freeway Bureau estimates a traffic volume at 118 million vehicle kilometers today, advising travelers heading south on the western highways to depart before 6 a.m. or after 12 p.m., and those heading north to leave southern areas before 9 a.m. and central regions before 12 p.m. Tomorrow, 18 bottleneck locations are anticipated with traffic volume likely to be 112 million vehicle kilometers, 1.2 times the daily average, particularly congesting routes including sections of National Highway 1, 3, and 5 in both directions.
