Hideo, a Malaysian tapir from Yokohama Zoo in Japan who was supposed to arrive in Taiwan for a bloodline exchange on June 21, was found unresponsive upon arrival at the airport and was later confirmed dead at the Taipei Zoo quarantine center. After an expert autopsy, the cause of death was determined to be systemic circulatory failure, coagulation dysfunction, and pulmonary edema due to heat stress. The incident has sparked sadness among fans and raised concerns in Taiwan. The Taipei Zoo has reopened to the public after 10 days of closure for their 110th anniversary celebration, featuring conservation-themed decorations and new sustainable dining pavilion content, as well as the release of 110th-anniversary-themed merchandise.
