The opening of the Sun Moon Lake, Lalu Hotel, part of LihPao Group, marked the beginning of a high-end hotel market battle at Sun Moon Lake as it became the first internationally branded leisure resort hotel in Sun Moon Lake. Hamalai Hotels Group's Sun Moon Lake branch, Hamalai Sun Moon Lake, is set to commence trial operations in early July, intensifying competition in the high-end hotel market at Sun Moon Lake alongside other hotels. With 203 rooms and 9 different room types, the Sun Moon Lake, Lalu Hotel features hot spring baths in all rooms, with the majority offering both hot and cold pools. Expecting an average room rate of NT$8,000 in the first year, the hotel aims for an occupancy rate of over 75%. The Hamalai Sun Moon Lake, with 93 lake-facing rooms and hot spring pools, targets an 80% occupancy rate with an average room rate around NT$25,000 to NT$30,000 per year as they focus mainly on villa-style vacation experiences for independent travelers.
