Wu Hsiu-mei, head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has been removed from her position after more than seven years in office, facing backlash due to several food and drug safety incidents, including issues like the controversy surrounding the import of U.S. pork, high-end vaccine disputes during the COVID-19 pandemic, and various cases of substandard products entering the market. The recent shortage of physiological saline solution and IV fluids has sparked widespread public dissatisfaction, adding to the longstanding resentment against Wu. Despite her tough approach, Wu had the support of Health Minister Chen Shih-chung, but the consistent supply chain issues have led to calls for her resignation among various sectors. Wu's removal from office was accompanied by calls for improved communication and a change in leadership within the FDA.
