The New Zealand Arboricultural Association held the annual tree selection event on June 8, 2024, where a tree wearing high heels won the title. The Northern rātā tree from the South Island, known as 'The Walking Tree,' was recognized for its human-like appearance and the ability to grow up to 40 meters tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 3 meters, and a lifespan of 1000 years. This epiphyte plant initially parasitized other trees before rooting down, wrapping around the host tree. The tree's unique characteristics, including its portrayal resembling a giant stepping forward in high heels, captivated judges.
