In the midst of continuously skyrocketing housing prices in Taiwan, young people are feeling increasingly deprived. Since the launch of the Nesting Movement protest in 2014, housing prices have continued to rise, making the dream of homeownership even more unattainable. With real wages in Taiwan growing by less than 1% in the past decade while housing prices have surged by 50% from 2013 to 2023, the disconnect between high housing costs and income levels has created challenges for the younger generation. Despite government efforts to curb speculation, housing prices have continued to rise, leaving many unable to afford homes and opting to rent instead.
