High Probability of La Nina Reversal! More Typhoons and Hotter Summers Expected

Reported 8 months ago

As the La Nina phenomenon is coming to an end, the focus for the second half of 2024 will be on the La Nina reversal, which will affect Taiwan's weather patterns. During a La Nina reversal year, rainfall in the northeast and east regions of Taiwan tends to increase during autumn and winter, leading to a colder winter. The number of typhoons forming in the northwest Pacific is expected to decrease, but when they do form, they are likely to be closer to Taiwan, making typhoon forecasting more challenging. Additionally, the summer is expected to be hotter due to the La Nina reversal, with a higher chance of extreme high temperatures, requiring vigilance. The likelihood of the La Nina reversal occurring in autumn is predicted to be 81%, impacting Taiwan's future rainfall and typhoon formation.
