In Hsinchu, a man surnamed Fang who only graduated from high school and had no medical license falsely claimed to be a Chinese medicine doctor. He performed acupuncture on three women in January 2022, causing them physical discomfort. Investigations revealed he had no medical license, and the women filed complaints against him for practicing medicine without a license. Fang was sentenced by the Hsinchu District Court for violating the Physicians Act. Despite not receiving any payment, his actions were deemed a serious threat to public health and the rights of qualified doctors. Fang was sentenced to six months in prison, which was commuted to a fine, with a two-year probation period during which he must fulfill community service and attend legal education classes.
