Reported about 1 year ago
A high school student in Yilan wanted to buy a motorcycle but faced age restrictions. When he turned 18 this year, he followed the advice of a dealer to use a '0 down payment' scheme to acquire a motorcycle, resulting in him accumulating over NT$100,000 in debt. The student's father criticized the dealer for 'inducing excessive consumption,' but the Yilan County Government's consumer protection official stated that the contract was signed by a fully capable adult in a fair transaction. Despite being legal, the situation raised concerns about young adults having limited financial capabilities and being led into substantial debt at a young age.
