On July 17, 2024, at 9:10 PM, meteorologist Wu Derong stated that today (7/18) Taiwan's air is relatively warm, with local areas reaching a high of 38 degrees. Additionally, the probability of a 'tropical storm' in the southeast sea of Taiwan has increased to 70%, with the estimated path exposed. The chances of it becoming a typhoon have also risen to 70%. Wu Derong mentioned that from today until 7/23, Taiwan will be in a warm air mass, under the influence of the Pacific high-pressure system, leading to extreme high temperatures. Various regions in Taiwan are experiencing temperatures ranging from 25 to 38 degrees Celsius. Increased moisture today is causing localized showers in Hengchun Peninsula and Taitung. Afternoon convective activity is expanding, with a threat of 'severe thunderstorms' and potential urban flooding, as well as the need to be vigilant against landslides and debris flow in mountainous areas. The possible typhoon path is now revealed, with one 'tropical storm' showing a 70% probability in the southeast sea of Taiwan. European model simulations suggest uncertainties in the path, emphasizing the need for continued monitoring.
