High Temperatures in 12 Cities Reach 37 Degrees! Afternoon Thunderstorms Hit Northern Taiwan

Reported 8 months ago

The weather in recent days has been hot and humid, with the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms. Today's weather (6/22) is similar to yesterday's, with high temperatures across the regions due to the influence of the Pacific high pressure system. There may be sporadic showers in the southeast and Hengchun Peninsula, and coastal areas in the central and southern regions may experience brief showers in the morning. However, in the afternoon, due to heating effects, convection will intensify, leading to heavy rain in mountainous areas. Central, northern Taipei, Yilan, and Hualien plains may also experience brief thunderstorms with thunder and strong winds. UV levels are high around midday, so sun protection is advised. Temperatures range from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius in most areas, with higher temperatures possible in urban areas, mountains near the central and southern regions, and the Hualien valley. Central Weather Bureau has issued orange warnings for Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County, with a likelihood of continuous 36-degree heat. New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Chiayi County, and Hualien County are under a yellow warning. Meteorologist Wu Derong warned of the persistence of a front near the Yangtze River basin in the next two days, resulting in hot and clear weather in Taiwan, with temperatures reaching around 37 degrees and emphasized the importance of sun protection and heat stroke prevention.
