Hino Motors, Toyota's truck division, has agreed to pay over $1.6 billion and plead guilty to multiple violations involving the submission of fraudulent engine emissions testing data and illegal importation of engines into the U.S. The company acknowledged that it falsified emissions data since 2003, leading to significant environmental damage. As part of the plea deal, Hino will face a criminal fine, a probation period banning diesel engine imports, and must implement comprehensive compliance programs.
